In The Nice Guys, Gosling’s rumpled PI laments that “the days of ladies and gentlemen are over,” but Gosling is at his best playing men whose time has passed. Even the 20th century’s most iconic doll can barely match his Kenergy. The closest thing to Ken in Gosling’s previous filmography is his character in Crazy, Stupid, Love, a self-styled ladies’ man who takes Steve Carell’s hapless middle-aged dad under his wing. He’s just this side of irredeemable, but it becomes clear that he doesn’t get any more from the women he sleeps with than they get from him.

The “Barbie” movie has been one of the most watched — and commented on — of the year. Even though the star of the movie is Barbie, there’s another character that’s winning the hearts of admirers all over the world. Another Twitter user (or X user) evoked the meme to poke fun at the website’s recent rebranding. “Returning to Barbieland to find the Dreamhouse has become the Mojo Dojo Casa House,” Lillian Crawford captioned a post featuring side-by-side pictures of the Twitter and X logos. Barbie hit theaters less than a week ago and has already taken over the world, especially at the box office. The Mattel-branded film’s Monday, July 24 earnings helped it breeze past $400 million globally.

Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House From Barbie Is Taking Over The Internet, And I Can't Stop Laughing About It

These frat houses are also the place where as part of their plan to prevent the Kens taking over Barbieland, some of the Barbies are tasked with distracting the guys on a date night to ensure they miss a meeting at the Supreme Court. Upon his return, then, Barbieland’s women-favoring power dynamic places the men in all positions of power, and Barbie’s Dreamhouse gets transformed into Ken’s Mojo Dojo Casa House. The much-memed, long-awaited feature from director Greta Gerwig is a delightful comic fantasy that promotes and deconstructs its own Mattel doll brand. Gosling’s Ken later denounces the patriarchy and learns from Barbie not to define himself by his possessions, his relationship or his job of just “beach.” He’s just Ken, and he’s Kenough. After ‘Barbie’ breaks a Monday ticket record, industry analysts predict how well that film and ‘Oppenheimer’ will perform this weekend.

Ken on Barbie's Shoulder

On July 23rd, 2023, Twitter[3] user @atotalposer posted a Star Wars meme referencing the house, garnering over 11,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). Later that day, Twitter[4] user @mishricci posted a meme that gained over 92,000 likes in two days (shown below, right). The Barbie movie has inspired a mountain of memes, from mugshot redraws to the phrase "I am Kenough" to an image of Ken on Barbie's shoulder. The latest Barbie meme to take off on social media is the Mojo Dojo Casa House, a reference to a scene in the movie where Ken rebrands the Barbie Dreamhouse. Also on July 24th, 2023, Twitter[8] user @seanjetravers posted a photo of a building featured in the film Midsommar, writing, "Take him to the mojo dojo casa house," garnering over 61,000 likes in a day (shown below, left). On July 25th, Smosh shared a photo to Twitter[9] of the house featured in some of their videos, writing, "mojo dojo casa house," garnering over 17,000 likes in under a day (shown below, right).

And with the success of the movie combined with his Kenergy, fans have been looking for and willing to buy all kinds of merchandise. The Barbies’ Kens—they are all named Ken, just as all the Barbies are named Barbie—are sculpted Adonises with perfect hair and washboard abs, but they don’t serve any real function. Where the Barbies are individuated by their professions—Lawyer Barbie, Diplomat Barbie—the Kens are simply Ken. Now, women (and some men) have been taking to TikTok to share their experiences of real-life Mojo Dojo Casa House date moments.

So instead of finding a nice girl, he buys one, a life-sized sex doll he names Bianca. Although she, unlike Barbie (or Ken, for that matter), is anatomically correct, Lars’ intentions are entirely courtly. I’ve been absolutely loving all these memes about the mojo dojo casa houses. Along with the really moment when the Kens singing Matchbox 20’s “Push” and the little humorous reference to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there are so many funny moments in Barbie that highlight just how funny the boys of Barbie Land are. One Twitter user even likened the rebranding of Twitter to X to the Barbie Dreamhouse transitioning into the mojo dojo casa house, receiving over 200,000 likes.

Huckleberry (1014 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica 90401) is their breakfast and lunch destination that specializes in California-inspired comfort food and baked goods. On every table, customers will find a jar of Huck Hot Sauce - a spicy, tangy, fire red sauce crafted with Fresno chiles, coriander, white vinegar, and apple cider vinegar. Breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, and poached egg bowls with seasonal vegetables are natural pairings for this sauce, which also helps accentuate their fried chicken sandwich.

When Ken takes over the Dreamhouse, though, it largely loses its right to being called a "dream house" at all. Ken turns the house into a bit of a bachelor pad and deems it the "mojo dojo casa house," a nonsensical name considering "casa" means "house" in Spanish. The scene became a fast favorite among fans of the movie and spread to social media over the following days. As expected, a meme inspired by Ken’s home is already dominating social media. Just days after Barbie’s release, Twitter user Dr. Sean Travers tweeted, “Take him to the mojo dojo casa house,” complete with a photo of the yellow pyramid building from Midsommar.

Tired of being sidelined in favor of the women in their lives, Barbie’s Kens (led by Ryan Gosling in a ridiculous mink coat) eventually quit their “beaching” and decide to assert their dominance, plastering Barbie Land with all of their tacky accoutrements. The “Barbie” production team explains how they made Barbie Land so appealing—and their biggest inspiration as they buried it under a pile of TVs.

The Real-Life Inspiration for Kens Mojo Dojo Casa House in Barbie

I for one, can’t stop laughing about all the memes that have emerged about the name Ken gives the dreamhouses after Barbie Land becomes the Kendom. For example, @AlDANS_ posted a silly throwback about Crazy Stupid Love, noting that Gosling’s character Jacob had the OG mojo dojo casa house. And thinking back about all those QVC purchases he made in the 2011 comedy, I totally agree. Over the following days, people began posting further memes about the Mojo Dojo Casa House, often depicting various houses as the Mojo Dojo Casa House or referencing it in another way.

There’s a saloon door in front, one of those giant and hideous ergonomic gaming desk chairs in the living room, and way too many cowboy hats on the wall. Speaking with The Daily Beast’s Obsessed about their design process, Spencer recalled the moment when she and Greenwood contemplated the destruction they were about to wreak upon their gorgeous creation. ” As we can all see from the toxic-male paradise that made it to screen, her answer was a resounding yes.

How can Zillow Gone Wild fans get involved?

Part power ballad, part battle sequence and part dream ballet, “I’m Just Ken” arrives onscreen like an elaborate bit, or an excuse for Ryan Gosling to flex his Oscar-nominated vocal cords and reprise his viral dance routines. And yet it’s an absolute showstopper, one as ridiculous as it is ideologically ambitious and visually astute. Like the powerful monologue America Ferrera delivers about the impossibilities of being a woman, this five-minute sequence is an empathetic acknowledgment of the pressures put on men to (literally) perform their masculinity, often to toxic lengths. One room is set up as a combination gym and gaming room, while multiple flat-screen TVs proliferate in different areas to create "an immersive entertainment experience." According to the listing, one of those TVs is a 98-inch behemoth valued at $20,000 and stays with the house. "On today’s episode of You Never Know What’s Going On Inside A Home, Part 56," Mezrahi posted before linking to the real estate listing from agent Andrew Heath.

10-ounce bottles retail for $10, and are also available down Wilshire Boulevard at sister restaurant Milo & Olive. The Asapahu family’s seven-sauce line-up has been the backbone of Ayara Thai Cuisine (6245 W. 87th St., Los Angeles 90045), a beloved restaurant on a Westchester side street that debuted in 2004. This sauce balances roasted chiles with tangy tamarind, umami-rich fish flakes and fish sauce, garlic, red onions, and cane sugar. Thai Chili-Lime "seafood dipping sauce" delivers bite to cooked crab and salmon or raw oysters.

Kashcool Kitchen (6159 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys 91401) is a Persian institution that’s been going strong for nearly 50 years in various locations, beginning in Mashad, Iran. Mahtab Javadian-Saraf and husband Farhad Mehrtash carry on rich family culinary traditions across from Van Nuys Courthouse West. Their grilled meats are downright scintillating, and when paired with flavored rice and house hot sauce, really satisfying. Javadian-Saraf doesn’t give much away about her green sauce, other than “secret” herbs and spices, jalapeño, and lime juice. In 2007’s Lars and the Real Girl, he’s a pathologically withdrawn man who can’t stand the touch of a human hand.

Fans are using the phrase and sharing photos and videos of when things are changed to something worse than before, or used to described something/a house-like structure as less than. The Mojo Dojo Casa House is complete with ridiculous details, like Doritos in the juivcers, the TVs playing the same horse clip, and more. This is one Barbie-inspired meme that will get a lot of mileage in the weeks and months ahead. As it turns out, Greenwood and Spencer came at this project with a specific reference point in mind—the pop artist Richard Hamilton’s 1956 collage Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing. Like the Mojo Dojo Casa House, the collage is a dissonant amalgamation of imagery, all slapped together around the image of a nude muscle man who is holding a big, orange lollipop in front of his junk.

In a highly relatable montage, the dolls sit through movies with a side of mansplaining, or a beer-fuelled tour of Ken's prized possessions, all while expertly feigning enjoyment at their toxic masculine Kenergy. There's then a scene where the Barbies all sit around campfires with a respective Ken playing guitar to them, which leads to a bust-up when the dolls pretend to lose interest and flirt with a different Ken to the one who's been trying to seduce them. And given the number of people who’ve ventured through Barbieland on the big screen, it should come as no surprise that memes inspired by the movie are already making the rounds. We’ll give you one guess as to what these undisclosed people might’ve had in common. Chef Brandon Boudet and business partner Warner Ebbink have a tiny deli and bakery next to Little Dom’s (2128 Hillhurst Ave. Los Angeles 90027) their beloved Los Feliz Italian restaurant. Boudet uses burgundy-hued Watermelon BBQ Sauce - $10 for 16 ounces - as both a marinade and for slathering on meats.

As such, analysts and pundits posit Barbie will join the $1 billion club by the end of its theatrical run. Ashley Lee is a staff reporter at the Los Angeles Times, where she writes about theater, movies, television and the bustling intersection of the stage and the screen. An alum of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Critics Institute and Poynter’s Power of Diverse Voices, she leads workshops on arts journalism at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. She was previously a New York-based editor at the Hollywood Reporter and has written for the Washington Post, Backstage and American Theatre, among others. In the film, Gosling’s Ken — Barbie’s anxiety-ridden, try-hard, beta-status boyfriend — is revitalized by the patriarchy of the real world and returns to indoctrinate everyone in Barbieland.

He crows that “the war between the sexes is over, and we won,” but Gosling plays him like a loser, even if he is one who looks awfully good with his shirt off. To make their Barbieland sets a reality, the movie’s production team embraced the surreal, going big on bright pinks and shrunken proportions. The Barbie movie is smashing records left, right and centre with its box office success, including having the biggest opening record for a movie by a female director.

From adrenaline-pumping water slides on Carnival Cruise vessels to immersive Broadway-style shows on Disney Cruise Line, the possibilities are as vast as the ocean itself. If you have an 18th birthday while on a cruise and 18-year-olds are allowed to drink alcohol, you would also be able to buy and consume alcoholic beverages while onboard. In some instances, depending on your cruise line, your age is verified upon boarding.

Can You Drink on a Caribbean Cruise at 18?

Guests younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the entertainment venues and may have restricted access to pools, spa, gyms and beauty salons. Children must be toilet trained to use the swimming pools and whirlpools. Kids under 18 years old are allowed to join shore excursions on their own provided their parent or guardian submits written consent to the Shore Tours Manager/Operator once onboard.

The cool thing about cruising with Royal Caribbean is that there will be a lot of passengers around your age. On the first day, make sure to check out a hosted meetup for 18 to 20-year-olds. Depending on your views on gambling, 18-year-olds can test out the casinos and poker rooms onboard the ships. Do any cruises allow 18-year-olds?

Many 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds like nightlife where they can socialize and dance. Most cruise ship discos are 18-plus, so older teens can hang out even if they can't drink. Technically, you can also cruise with Carnival if you’re aged 18 to 20, including ports in the US – but you have to be married and travelling with your spouse.

While I caught a variety show, socialized with new friends or enjoyed lounge entertainers, she hung out with teens her age at supervised parties, swim events, socials and dances. Next, check out my article on how old you have to be to cruise in general, so that you can see the minimum age for younger guests who are sailing with their families. Virgin Voyages is the best cruise line for under 21s looking for a party atmosphere. The ships are all adults-only, with 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds welcome to join the fun. So in this guide, I’ll let you know which cruise lines allow guests under 21 without parents, and what makes them a good choice. Cruise line staff cannot serve wine or any other alcoholic drink to your underage son or daughter.

My young adult children are very active and I'm not. Can we split up and go on different shore excursions in port?

Passengers ages 13 to 17 can occupy a cabin up to three rooms away from their chaperoning adult. One of the most exciting moments of every Virgin Voyages sailing is Scarlet Night, when the entire ship is decked out in red thanks to added red lights and red crew outfits. Guests are encouraged to don their crimson best and attend a late-night dance party on the pool deck.

Carnival Cruise Line

Cruisers who have aged out of Vibe, the teen club for 14- to 17-year-olds, will find their own "secret" onboard club known as the 1820 Society. Guests are required to be 21 years of age to cruise alone and to consume alcoholic beverages on Carnival. However, you can cruise with Carnival if you are accompanied by someone 25 years old and older. Overall, MSC is a great cruise line for 18-year-old cruisers, young adults and college students. They have a great mix of fun activities and an exciting nightlife, so you will never be bored.

Can 18-year-Olds Visit Bars and Nightclubs on a Cruise?

If you want to feel the ocean breeze on your face while sipping a martini, head to the Rooftop Garden, where greenery, plush loungers and ocean views will keep you coming back throughout your cruise. However, you must step out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to strangers. Overall, Princess is a great cruise line for someone looking for a laid-back and enjoyable experience. However, you can cruise with Celebrity if you are in a cabin with someone who is over the age of 25. However, Disney is not a booze cruise it has a more family-friendly vibe.

Innovative and Exciting On-board Activities for Young Adults

This varies by itinerary and is subject to change, so it’s always best to check the specific policy of your Royal Caribbean cruise before setting sail. We’ve also charted the course for understanding cruise ship safety and etiquette and even shared a treasure chest of tips tailored just for 18-year-olds. You might wonder, what’s all the fuss about cruise for 18 year old? With the increasing number of young adults showing a keen interest in cruise vacations, understanding the age policies of various cruise lines has never been more important.

can you go on a cruise at 18

If you’re an adventurous 18-year-old, you will love the activities onboard a Carnival cruise. While they may not be able to drink alcohol until they are 21 (unless in international waters), most cruise lines let years into the nightclubs and surrounding bars. As we dock at the end of this cruise line age policies exploration, we invite you, our fellow cruisers, to join the conversation.

A Celebrity cruise would be a good choice if you have a healthy budget to spend and you aren’t looking for too many daytime activities, but you’d like a contemporary cruise experience. There’s a good mix of daytime activities if you want to relax, and at night there are some interesting bars that offer a more lively atmosphere. MSC ships have a lively atmosphere on board, with good evening entertainment, a wide variety of dining options, and plenty of bars where you can grab a cocktail.

The only main cruise line which offers drinking to 17 years olds is P&O cruises which allow alcohol with a meal to anyone over 16 years of age. Most cruise lines will allow 18-year-olds to hang out in bars and nightclubs with friends and family or even by themselves. Although well known as the party and fun cruise line, Carnival is one of the strictest regarding the drinking age. Cruise lines offer swimming pools, hot tubs, and serene deck spaces to unwind for those who prefer a more laid-back cruise. “Just laying by the pool with a book was the most relaxing experience,” 18-year-old Sarah recalls from her cruise on Celebrity Cruises. Their ships are modern and chic, with fancy bars and places to eat.

If you choose the right cruise, you will meet many people your age and make new friends. Princess and Celebrity are great choices if you’re looking for a relaxing, upscale cruise experience. These cruise lines offer great service, tasty food, and have many areas to sit back, relax, and recharge. In fact, I went on many cruises before the age of 21, where I had fun without consuming alcohol. You can still enter the clubs, bars, and casinos and participate in the nightlife.

Guests on Celebrity cruises are expected to adhere to the minimum drinking age of 21 in US waters. However, guests from 18 can purchase and consume alcohol once the ship is at least 3 miles outside of US territorial waters. Parental consent will be required, and a form will need to be signed.

As we drift towards the Norwegian fjords, the Norwegian Cruise Line enters our horizon. For ships belonging to the Norwegian Cruise that depart from ports within the United States, the minimum age requirement for consuming alcohol is 21 years. However, young adults of 18 years can enjoy a drink if they’re embarking on a journey from Europe, South America, Australia, or Asia. This cruise line follows the wave of the North American legal drinking age, requiring passengers to be 21 to both purchase alcohol, and consume alcohol. Nonetheless, should your voyage commence from regions such as South America, Asia, Europe, New Zealand, or Australia the permitted age for alcohol consumption is reduced to 18. Departures from international waters may allow drinking from the age of 18.
